The Town of Penfield will host its Memorial Day Ceremony of Remembrance on Monday, May 30 at Penfield Amphitheater in Veterans Memorial Park (3100 Atlantic Ave). The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. This annual event will honor fallen veterans and includes remarks by guest speaker Dan Murphy. Murphy, a retired Navy SEAL and Penfield native, began his military service at the U.S. Naval Academy, followed by 11 years as a Navy SEAL Officer. Dan now resides in Colorado and works in mental healthcare. The ceremony will also feature the reading of essays by middle school students and Penfield’s traditional Presentation of Roses. During this time, community members remember fallen military personnel with a rose placed on the Veterans’ Memorial monument stone. The Nucor House, named after benefactor Nucor Steel, is fully furnished and includes all amenities for its residents. Food and transportation are also included, as well as case management services for veterans. |
