Oratorical Competition Planning & Execution

For Junior High School Students only. Take pictures throughout the process
1) Determine the number of students the club will support in the oratorical competition. Verify the stipend that will be provided to the student(s) even if they do not place in the competition. Get commitments from club members to volunteer for event.
2) Obtain the oratorical contest application and infomration from the district, including dates, etc.
3) Contact the High School Principal to make an appointment to talk about oratorical contest and ask for contacts in the english / guidance department. Have school secretary set up the initial meeting between Rotary and the school.
4) Meet with the Principal and the music individuals and explain the oratorical contest rules and what it entails. Provide general dates of activities. Provide what the scghool needs to do and what Rotary needs to do. Also provide the potential benefits and/or monetary rewards.
5) Obtain the name of the student(s) selected by the school to participate in the oratorical competition
6) Send in oratorical application fee to the district for each student
7) Mentor the student(s) as necessary or appropriate
8) Provide the dates/times and locations for the oratorical competition regionals and the finals to the Principal and vocal contacts.
9) Coordinate with student and parents to get the student to the needed regional location
10) Coordinate with the student andparents to get the student(s) to the needed finals location
11) Attend the regional and final performances of the student(s)
12) Coordinate with district oratorical chair to obtain any student monetary winnings
13) Coordinate with the club secretary to create and obtain the stipend check
14) Coordinate with the student(s), parents and school to provide the check and any monetary winnings.
15) Follow up anytine as necessary to keep the student(s), school, club and parents informed of the upcoming activities.

Nucor House Thanksgiving Dinner

One of our favorite events with our Veteran friends, a shared Thanksgiving dinner. It's alway good to remember old friends, new friends and what we have. Watch for sign-up notice. Everyone brings a favorite dish to pass.

Penfield High School Student Scholarships

For Senior High School Students only. Take pictures throughout the process
1) Determine the dollar amount the club will support for scholarships. Determine club members to be on the scholarship committee.
2) Obtain the Penfield scholarship application and infomration from the Google drive or other location. Create applicable packages to be provided to the school
3) Contact the High School Principal to make an appointment to talk about the scholarships and ask for contacts in the english / guidance department. Have school secretary set up the initial meeting between Rotary and the school. (If the club will support BOCES scholarships, get the information for the BOCES individuals. Set a meeting with them also.
4) Meet with the Principal and the english / guidance individuals and explain the scholarship contest rules and what it entails. Provide general dates of activities. Provide what the school needs to do and what Rotary needs to do. Also identify the monetary rewards. Provide a maximum number of students that the committee will entertain for scholarships it should be2x - 2.5x the number of scholarships available.

6) Provide the school with the scholarship application package for the students

5) Provide the cutoff dates to receive applications for the scholarships. Determine the date of the awards night

6) Coordinate with the school to obtain the completed scholarship packages

7) Create the package and criteria to evaluate the student application

8) Obtain the scholarshiop application packages and distribute them to the committee members for review
9) Review the packages and discuss with committee members to determine the winners of the scholarships
10) Communicate the scholarship winners to the Penfield Rotary Club
11) Communicate the scholarship winners to the school
12) Plan certificates, etc. to be presented to the students on awards night. Get some talking points per student from the school for awards night.
13) Coordinate with the club secretary to create and obtain the Scholarship checks
14) Attend the high school awards night to announce the winners of the scholarships
15) Coordinate with the school, students and their parents (if necessary) so the students can receive their checks.
