Amazing Highlights from the January Club Meeting

 
At our recent monthly Rotary Club meeting, we had the honor of hosting several notable guests and discussing various important topics.
 
Guest Speaker: Zahra, originally from Afghanistan and currently residing with fellow Rotarian Tara DuMont, shared her recent experiences living in the United States. She provided a poignant discussion on the struggles faced by Afghan women under repressive leadership in Afghanistan.

District Oratorical Contest

 
 
We are proud to announce our Penfield Rotary sponsored student, Chloe Chen placed first in the competition. Our other Penfield Rotary sponsored student Callyn Sanderson also is eligible for a college scholarship.
 
Don Collins, the oratorical competition chair said the judging of the students was extremely difficult. All of the students who presented were professional and spoke very. Each student had a current and relevant message that showed how the Rotary Four Way Test was applicable to current society. 
 
Many thanks to the oratorical committee including Tara DuMont, Peggi Koch and Steve Brotzman for mentoring the students. It showed in their final performances..

29th Annual Penfield Charity Golf Tournament!

On Monday, September 27, 2021, the Kiwanis Club of Penfield-Perinton Foundation, Staff Volunteers from the Town of Penfield and Penfield Rotary Club will be hosting our 29th annual Charity Golf Tournament at Shadow Lake Golf Club. This tournament is held each year to raise funds to help local organizations that provide services to the residents of our community. Proceeds from previous tournaments have benefited the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, Mary Cariola, Penfield High School's Don Mack Scholarship Fund, Penfield Shepherd Home, Bethany House, Villa of Hope, Scouts, Penfield Little League and various local food pantries.

John Pascucci

John grew up in Penfield, graduating from Penfield High in 2001 and then from St. John Fisher in 2006 with a degree in economics. During high school and college, John worked at Penfield Trophies as a trophy builder and engraver. After graduation, he moved out to Boston and pursued his passion for exercise and became a Personal Trainer and managed gyms in Boston and surrounding suburbs. John decided to go back to school in 2010 and attained his MBA from Boston College, specializing in Corporate Finance with additional work in Asset Management and Strategy. Read more about John HERE

August Service Project - Fill The Backpacks!

100 Bags Filled For Children at No. 54 School

 
Our August service project was collecting supplies for 100 children at No. 54 School in Rochester. Penfield Rotarians and friends scoured the area for enough notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, scissors, markers, folders, glue sticks,  erasers, rulers and water bottles to fill the bags. Members met at Harris Whalen Park for a socially distance sorting an filling meeting. The 'backpacks" were actually fabric bags with string pulls that can be carried as bags or used as back packs.  We have been donating school supplies for about 8 years. We started out with just about two boxes of supplies in 2012. Boy! Have we grown!!!  Thank-you for everyone's support!

PRC Collects School Supplies for School 54

Penfield Rotary Club collected school supplies for Rochester City School #54 on Otis Street.  Club Members gathered at Mary Ann Mady's house to fill over 100 individual book bags with donated school supplies!  Rotarians Mary Ann Mady and Nancy Aumann will deliver all the supplies collected to School #54 next week. 

The Club has had a school supply drive each year for the past several years as part of our mission to promote literacy in the Greater Rochester community.  This year, Girls Scouts from Troops #61001 and #60219 helped us with collection and assembly of the school supply bags.

Service Celebrated at April Club Meeting

Penfield Rotary’s Eighth Annual Service above Self Luncheon recognized seven employees from Penfield-based businesses or organizations who provide outstanding service to their colleagues, customers or clients.  Standing from left to right in between Club President Marie Cinti, and Event Chair Jack Best: Kathleen Proietti (Family First FCU), Jeanine Fyfe (Broccolo Lawn Care), Charleen Calabro (Eastside Y), Ed Cala (St. Joseph’s), Mary Button (Paychex), Bernadette Brinkman (Penfield Library) and Dan Krist (Advantage FCU).

Penfield Rotary Scholarships Now Available

The Penfield Rotary Club is pleased to offer two scholarships for Penfield High School Students. 
 
One scholarship is for any Penfield High School senior who meets the criteria for this one-time scholarship.  The other scholarship is specifically for a Penfield High School senior who is completing a program at Eastern Monroe Career Center.  Scholarship applications and criteria for each of these scholarships is available through your high school guidance counselor and can also be downloaded from this website.

PRC Members Support Boy Scouts at Pinewood Derby

Penfield Rotary Club teamed up with Pack 9 Boy Scouts to help with their Pinewood Derby.  On Friday evening, Feb. 1, Rotarians helped "tech" the cars in preparation for Saturday's event. 
 
The next morning, we helped out at the refreshment area-- we were able to free up Scout parents to stay with their Scout while we took care of coffee and bagels.  See our photos on Facebook!

Our January club meeting featured five students from Penfield High School present their speeches for the District Oratorical Contest.  Each contestant presented a five-minute speech on how they plan to live their lives based on the four-way test.
 
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Our December Service Project had our club singing carols and ringing bells at Panorama Plaza for the Salvation Army.  We were helped by three wonderful students from Penfield High School and we even got a visit from Mrs. Claus!

November Club Meeting at EMCC

On Tuesday, November 6, Penfield Rotary Club held their November Club Meeting at Eastern Monroe Career Center in Fairport.  EMCC teaches approx. 600 students from several area high schools.   The Eastern Monroe Career Center offers programs in areas such as culinary arts, health care assistant, criminal justice, auto repair and many more.  The programs combine real-life learning experiences, academic skills and business and industry partnerships to prepare students for future education and employment.
